Wire Rope Grips Collard Eyebolts DIN 580
Wire rope grips provide a simple and fast cost effective way of making a thimble eye or loop termination. These grips range from commercial grade electro galvanised, heavy duty, hot dipped galvanised or US Federal Specifi cation, or stainless steel grade 304.
Standard Type (Cast Iron Cast)

The tightening torque shall be achieved on greased bearing surfaces of the nuts. With improperly tightened nuts, or with fewer grips than the number recommended, the end of the rope might draw through the grips even at light loading. The grips furtherest from the eye of the thimble should not be over tightened as that is the most vulnerable part of such an assembly. The tightening torque applied to the nuts should always comply with any recommendations provided by the manufacturer; however where recommendations are not provided by the manufacturer, the tightening torque applied to the nuts should comply with the table below.

Method of Application
The efficiency of a wire rope termination made with wire rope grips depends on their number per connection, their correct placement on the ropes, and the care and skill in the fitting and tightening of the grips. The number of wire rope grips per connection should not be less than the minimum specifi ed in the table alongside. The grips in a connection should be spaced along the wire rope at a distance between adjacent clips of approximaetly six rope diameters, with the position of the clip nearest the end connection as shown. The sequence of tightening an assembly of wire rope grips on a wire rope connection after they have been correctly positioned is from the thimble outwards.

SAFETY NOTICE ON WIRE ROPE GRIPS

Under the approved code of practice for load lifting and rigging slings assembled with wire rope grips are not to be used for lifting.

To preform to manufacturers specifications the correct number of grips must be installed correctly and tightened to the correct torque using a torque wrench.

The correct way to install is shown below:

Tightening torque for the DIN1142 and FED SPEC FFC-450 are shown in the tables below:

Torque for DIN1142 are on lubricated threads, torgues for FED SPEC 450 are on dry threads
