Wirelock@ is a unique socketing compound for use with wire ropes. It is quite simply the best socketing solution for safety, dependability and unparalleled fatigue performance. Wirelock@ started life in 1962 and has been in general use for more than 30 years. Wirelock@ is the original cold socketing compound and, therefore, eliminates the hazards of working with a molten metal, allowing socketing to be done on site in virtually all weather conditions. It is extremely difficult to produce a void free socket when using molten metal, but extremely easy to produce a void free socket using Wirelock@. This ensures a quality socket every time. Wirelock@ improves productivity by eliminating all these problems:
• No heat
• No acid
• No special skills
• No expensive equipment
• No special storage conditions
• No guessing of temperature
• No hazardous molten material
• No long cooling/curing process
• No loss of lubricant at socket neck
General Engineering
Uses are extremely varied and include crane ropes, boom pendants, winches, lifting straps and mast stays. Wirelock@ should always be used when socketing PFV ropes as the use of a molten metal will melt and vapourise the polymer in the valleys of the rope.
Structures
These are generally long term applications such as suspended roofs for stadia, aircraft hangers and otherdiverse structures.
Bridges
Wirelock@ is now widely used on prestigious new buildprojects such as the Bosphorous II in Turkey and theStorebaelt in Denmark. It suse in the refurbishment of existing bridges includes those at Albegna in Italy, Elke in Spain, the Forth Road bridge in Scotland and the Point d’Aquitaine in France. Some of the bridges use polymer sheathed ropes for maximum corrosion resistance. Wirelock@, being a cold process, does not damage the sheathing material and is, therefore, ideal for these applications.
Mining
Wirelock@ is the only socketing medium that is currently approved in the UK for both man and materials winding. It is extensively used for the same purposes in the gold mines of South Africa and mines in Australia and Canada.
Offshore
Wirelock@ is the preferred socketing medium for offshore mooring system worldwide. Moreover, it is the only socketing system that meets the requirements of DNV’s Certification Notes No. 2.5 “Certification of Mooring Steel Wire Ropes” May 1995. It has both Lloyds’ approval and ABS type approval. Wire lock is manufactured under very strict quality control - Lloyds Register Q.A ISO 9002.
